"Boulevard Swan" is the first single from an upcoming series of releases from Khanada, the solo project by Andy K. Smith of Peeling Grey. After a three year absence from the music scene, Andy returns with new material.
This track was written in late 2020, and carefully crafted and recorded earlier in 2021. Most of the lyrics were written over a decade ago, but shelved until the right moment surfaced. Originally, the words were intended for a Peeling Grey release, and at the time a completely different musical composition accompanied what was originally titled, "Card 614".
Lyrically, "Boulevard Swan" is directly related to Peeling Grey's 2012 single, "Broken Glass", both songs focused around the events of one individual that disappeared into obscurity after a tempestuous entanglement, but that is another story. For a brief period, many things happened on the sixth floor of the Gaylord Apartments on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Now, those stories are spearheading the lyrical narrative behind Khanada's debut.
lyrics
The morning birds sing
as the ghosts in your walls
collect the jewels
from your breaking heart
You drown yourself to
the bottom of your wishing well
So lost hoping to be found
by someone like me
I relinquish control
as the boulevard swan
guides me six above
Shots on the streets
Fired in your sleep
Your troubles slept away
as you fell into a
silent slumber
With the birds and me
This dream begins and ends
Guided by the old tower
The lullaby of Wilshire Boulevard
I have no control
as the boulevard swan
takes me six below
No control
No control for me
No control
